Types Of Medical PPE Equipment

For this purpose, PPE is divided into the following categories: eye and face protection, body protection, hand protection, respiratory protection. Each category contains its safety equipment, which is described below.

Eye and face protection

Eye protection is achieved by wearing safety glasses designed especially to reduce the risk of exposure to laser radiation, chemical splashes, and flying debris. There are four main types of eye protection – each with its limitations – including general eyewear, laser glasses, chemical eyewear, and impact eyewear. Full face protection is achieved by wearing medical grade face shields.

Hand protection

Selection of the right gloves is very important for hand protection. One of the most important tools is chemical protective gloves for minimizing chemical exposure to the skin in research laboratories. Under special conditions, gloves should only be used as they do not withstand all chemicals.

Body protection

A laboratory coat is required for all wet laboratories. Cotton blends are sufficient for a laboratory without a fire hazard. The Nomex coating is required when working with pyrophoric substances, flammable liquids in quantities above 4 liters or when working with flammable liquids and sources of ignition such as burners.

A protective coat should be worn when handling infectious material. The barrier layer can be autoclaved by placing the liner in the pan and placing the additional water container in the autoclave.
