The refrigeration dryer absorbs air containing moisture from the exhaust compressor and lowers the temperature by condensing the moisture into the water and separating it from the air before damaging the product and equipment.
Compressed air enters the air dryer at about 100 F. Air enters the air-to-air heat exchanger. In this heat exchanger, the supply air is pre-cooled by the cold exhaust air. The air then enters the heat exchanger with an air cooler which cools the air to about 35 F.
At this lower temperature, the moisture in the air condenses, separates from the air, and is expelled from the device. Finally, the air flows through the aforementioned air-to-air heat exchanger, which means that the incoming warm air can reheat the cooler air as it leaves the air dryer.
The compressed air coming out of the dryer has a dew point at a pressure between 35°F and 50°F.
